Registered Post Discontinued - Merged with Speed Post
India Post has officially discontinued the Registered Post service from September 1, 2025. The service has been merged with Speed Post to provide better tracking, faster delivery, and improved customer experience.
What Changed?
Previously, India Post offered two separate services for important mail:
- Registered Post: Provided proof of mailing and delivery, but slow
- Speed Post: Faster delivery with tracking, but more expensive
Now, these have been combined into a single enhanced Speed Post service that offers the best of both worlds.
New Features
Acknowledgment Feature
The most significant addition is the acknowledgment feature. For just ₹10 extra, you can get proof that your mail was delivered. This was previously only available with Registered Post.
Improved Tracking
All mail now gets real-time tracking updates. You can track your shipment from booking to delivery through:

- India Post mobile app
- SMS alerts
Faster Delivery
Speed Post already offered faster delivery than Registered Post. With the merger, all important mail now gets priority handling.
